Shared Ministry Covenant

On March 1, 2015 Redeemer Lutheran moved into a partnership with Grace Lutheran (Horseshoe Bend) to share pastoral services. That partnership has been guided by the Shared Ministry Covenant agreed to by both congregations at that time. The covenant set the parameters of our relationship to end on December 31, 2016 with the possibility of renewal. Over the last six months, the councils of both congregations and the partnership team have been working on the covenant. Attached you find a new covenant that was presented by the partnership team and affirmed by both councils in September.

A few highlights from the Shared Ministry Covenant – edited as of August 10, 2016

It will be for a term of two years (January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2018), however there is an automatic renewal clause that has been added for future years. This process is laid out in #8b of the general understandings.

Pastor Ken will alternate leading Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday services between Redeemer and Grace.

Redeemer has a long history of providing sabbaticals for their pastor and this was a part of Pastor Ken’s letter of call. Therefore a sabbatical policy has been added to the covenant as it may come up in the next couple of years.

The council would encourage congregational members to read through the covenant in its entirety and to bring your questions and/or comments to one of two congregational forums on October 30th and November 6th between our two Sunday morning worship services. This will be an opportunity for us to talk about the covenant and our partnership with Grace as a community.  The council would like to stress the importance of having all community members present for this conversation. This includes members, as well as active participants.

The congregational forums will be followed by a congregational meeting on Sunday, November 13th between services in which the congregation will vote on the partnership with Grace, as laid out in the “Shared Ministry Covenant – edited as of August 10, 2016.”

Special thanks to Ed Blakeslee, Ingrid Finstuen and Steve Knick for their work on the Partnership Team. If you have questions about the process or would like to talk before the congregational forum, we would encourage you to make an appointment with Pastor Ken and/or to reach out to a council member.
